Our lucky winners at the Humourous Speech Competition

Each year Woking Speakers Club competes in 5 contests. These are:

Humorous Speech Contest

The Humorous Speech contest runs each year during the Autumn. This is a Toastmasters International contest and therefore the winner at club contest goes on to compete with other club winners at various levels up to District (our District covers the whole of the UK and Ireland).

Topics Contest

The annual Table Topics contest is run alongside the Humorous Speech contest in the Autumn. Both contest culminate in the District level final which takes place at the District Conference in November each year.

International Speech Contest

The International Speech contest is held during the Spring. Also a Toastmasters International contest, this is the only contest that goes (as its name suggests) International, culminating at the Annual Toastmasters International Conference. The winner at this highest level is crowned World Champion.

Evaluation Contest

The annual Evaluation contest is run alongside the International Speech contest each Spring. This contest culminates in the District level final which takes place at the District Conference in May each year.

Tall Tales Contest

The Tall Tales contest can be held at any point during the year. Contests deliver a 'tall tales' speech during the contest, which usually consists of a story which includes some element of exaggeration. Woking Speakers usually takes part in a Tall Tales contest with the other clubs from Area 14 and Area 53.

Although it is not an 'official' Toastmasters competition, Woking Speakers has also competed in the Pint Pot of Fire competition.

Pint Pot of Fire

This is a local contest in which local speakers and writers compete to be crowned the best storyteller. Held annually, clubs taking part in the event in previous years were:

  • Farnham U3A Writers Group
  • Fellowship of the Pen, Farnham
  • Guildford Speakers Club, Guildford
  • West Street Writers, Farnham
  • Woking Speakers Club, Woking
