There are a number of awards that can be worked towards in the Toastmasters programme. They follow either the communication or leadership track and culminate in the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award, the highest award on offer from Toastmasters International and one that recognises achievement in both communication and leadership.

Below is an outline of the requirements for each award:

Communication Awards

Competent Communicator (CC) Award

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB) Award

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

  • Achieved Competent Communicator award (or achieved Competent Toastmaster award)
  • Completed two Advanced Communication Program manuals

Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) Award

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

  • Achieved Advanced Communicator Bronze award (or achieved Able Toastmaster award or Advanced Toastmaster Bronze award)
  • Completed two additional advanced manuals (may not be those completed for any previous award)
  • Conducted any two programs from:
    • The Better Speaker Series; and/or
    • The Successful Club Series

Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) Award

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

  • Achieved Advanced Communicator Silver award (or achieved Able Toastmaster Bronze award or Advanced Toastmaster Silver award)
  • Completed two additional advanced manuals (may not be those completed for any previous award)
  • Conducted a Success/Leadership program, Success/Communication program or a Youth Leadership program
  • Coached a new member with the first three speeches

Leadership Awards

Competent Leader

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) Award

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

  • Achieved Competent Leader award as described above; and
  • Achieved Competent Communicator award (or "old" Competent Toastmaster award); and
  • Served at least six months as a club officer (President, Vice President Education, Vice President Membership, Vice President Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer or Sergeant at Arms) and participated in the preparation of a Club Success Plan while serving in this office; and
  • While serving in the above office, participated in a District-sponsored Club Officer Training programme; and
  • Conducted any two programmes from:
    • The Successful Club Series; and/or
    • The Leadership Excellence Series.

NOTE: Success Communication, Success Leadership, Youth Leadership and The Better Speaker Series programmes do not qualify.

Programmes may not be those completed for previous awards.

Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) Award

To be eligible for this award, a member must have:

  • Achieved Advanced Leader Bronze award (or "old" Competent Leader award); and
  • Served a complete term as a District officer (District Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Public Relations Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, Division Governor or Area Governor). A complete term is defined as having served at least from September 1 through June 30. Those assuming office after September 1 do not qualify as having served a full term; and
  • Completed the High Performance Leadership Programme (see below); and
  • Served successfully as a Club Sponsor, Mentor or Coach.

Combined Communication and Leadership Awards

Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Award

Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) is the highest recognition that Toastmasters International awards and is designed to recognise achievements in both communication and leadership. To be eligible for this award, therefore, the member must have:

  • Achieved Advanced Leader Silver; and
  • Achieved Advanced Communicator Gold.
